IRON MAIDEN Documentary Being Edited
July 26, 2008Directors Scot McFadyen and Sam Dunn of Banger Films Inc. — creators of the critically acclaimed, award-winning documentary "Metal: A Headbanger's Journey" and its recently released follow-up "Global Metal" — are currently editing hundreds of hours of live and behind-the-scenes footage for the upcoming IRON MAIDEN documentary that followed the band's "Somewhere Back in Time" tour. Scot and Sam filmed the band in the air and on the stage, giving fans unprecedented access to one of the most-talked-about metal tours of 2008.
Producer/sound engineer Kevin Shirley (LED ZEPPELIN, IRON MAIDEN, DREAM THEATER, JOURNEY, AEROSMITH) has issued the following update on the editing process for the IRON MAIDEN documentary:
"Here I am, in a downtown Toronto hotel, suffering the ill effects of an hermetically sealed hotel room when both the air and the temperature outside are perfect for camping under the stars! Not that you're likely to find me camping anywhere when there's a hotel within fifty miles — we don't camp! I'm here to check out the line edits of the IRON MAIDEN movie (specifically the perfomance aspects) which is being edited and assembled here, so last night we got together to listen to the audio and see the edit thus far. They're a good bunch of lads and lasses, but I must confess to it being a little early in the process for me to be here, or they're running a bit behind, as it's not quite where it should be but I'll certainly help out where I can, and so it's off to the studio soon, to fix up sync and shot issues before anyone gets to see the rough cut."
IRON MAIDEN manager Rod Smallwood previously stated about he documentary, "This [is] such an incredible and exciting tour that we agreed with Scot and Sam's proposal to document this so if you see cameras following us around everywhere and around the stage you now know why!! A record of this is something that the band and myself would love to have and we are feel that many of you fans may feel hopefully feel the same — there has never been a tour quite like this before!"
Dunn was interviewed in February 2008 by Andrew Haug of Triple J's "Full Metal Racket" (based in Australia). Download the 16-minute audio file in MP3 format at this location (7 MB).
Photos of IRON MAIDEN frontman Bruce Dickinson's jam with LOS GAUCHOS — the three Argentinian brothers whose renditions of MAIDEN and SEPULTURA classics turned them into Internet sensations back in 2006 — can be viewed below. The jam session was reportedly filmed by McFadyen and Dunn for the upcoming IRON MAIDEN documentary.
